JUL22: Meet the Makers
If you managed to avoid the dazzling rush of summer burnout (too many activities, too much to do), well then good for you! Please let us know your secret, because as Fourth of July creeps closer, our own energy levels feel pretty low.
Maybe you’re also feeling that urge to slow down again. To find the lazy summer days (or moments) still in front of us. It’s a perfect time to get quiet, root down into the earth and open up to the (more leisurely and more sustainable) ancestral wisdoms within.
Pholk Beauty, was founded by historian of the African Diaspora, Niambi Cacchioli. After leaving academia and evolving into a beauty activist, Niambi’s sincare brand uses the healing and herbalist traditions of the African Diaspora to create Soul Food for the Skin.
Growing up in Kentucky, Niambi remembers each person having a garden or or vegetable plot and was taught simple beauty recipes by her grandmother. Years later, after traveling extensively and living in Europe for over a decade, she returned the to US. Later, Niambi launched Pholk as an infusion of African-derived beauty wisdom and clean, local ingredients.
In Pholk’s Moringa Pore Teatox Mask, powerful ingredients like southern collards and moringa green tea boost its potent magic. This chlorophyll and anti-oxidant loaded powder is like a deep fresh breath for clogged, blemished and oily skin. It works beautifully on all skin types to nourish and balance.
We also included their Aloe Lemon Balm Face Mist. Both of these products feel sublime and quench thirsty skin. They also address the season’s skin woes, helping to balance out summer’s excess heat and humidity.
Jamie Chambers founded Hobbs Tea in 2013 as the realization of a childhood dream. She was raised in Hanalei, a small beach town in Hawaii. Her mother worked in hospitality, serving the afternoon tea. Entranced, Jamie fell in love with the art and ceremony of tea.
Many of the teas Hobbs offers are grown right on Hawaii, where they are based. As a company, they maintain a line of exceptional specialty organic teas with sustainable sourcing and distribution.
We included their Rooibos tea, a single estate tea grown in the mountains of South Africa and crafted by the Khoisan tribe. Similar to a black tea with a rich deep brew that stands up to cream and honey its a great substitute for coffee or caffeinated tea. It's the ideal tea for July, as it’s also spectacular iced with a squeeze of lemon.
